  • How to take great photos on your travels

  • We all love travelling and taking plenty of photos to show off to our friends and family, but do we know how to take good photos on our trips. If you don’t have a professional camera, you can still take unique photos on your smartphone, and they don’t all have to look the same.

    how to take good photos

    How to take beautiful photos

We’ve put together our best tips and tricks on how to take original photos which are not plain and simple like the rest. We don’t have to go into such technical details and you don’t need a professional photographer. You just need a little bit of creativity and patience. So let’s find out how to take a great photo on our next trip.

    Don’t forget your camera

Sound silly? Sometimes we forget to take our camera as we’re only going for a short walk near to our holiday rental. But you never know what you will see! So carry the camera at all times!

    Play around with perspective

We’re not just talking about the typical photo of someone pushing the leaning tower of Pisa or touching the tip of the Eiffel tower. Get together with your group of friends and pretend one of you is a giant among people. Get creative and see what else you can snap!

    Get a selfie stick

    selfie stick

Yes that annoying stick we see everyone carrying around and looking ridiculous, you probably need one! If you’re travelling to Majorca and you can to film yourself jumping into the sea, it’s the best way to film it. Or maybe you’re travelling with a group of friends and you don’t want to miss one of your friends out of the photo every time, selfie stick it!

Don’t worry about people being in your photo

Everyone wants to get the perfect photo of themselves with a beautiful background but sometimes life isn’t always so easy. With many people flocking to tourist destinations you might just have to take a photo with other people in it, but this way, it’s more natural!

    Face the light

Professional photographers can adjust the light in their photos using their camera or editing software, but for us, that’s probably not the case.

Remember to always face towards the sun so that the camera doesn’t catch any dark shadows. And if it’s a cloudy day, even better!

    Search for a new angle

We don’t always have to take a plain photo of the Eiffel tower, everyone has seen it already. Why not try to take it from another angel or perspective which makes you see it in a new light and with different surroundings. Look around you and see what else you could include in your snapshot.

    Use your creativity

Look for a corner or a cove in the wall where you can put your camera and use a natural photo frame. It could be on the beach, in a building in the city centre or even a strangely shaped hole in the ground…

    Tell a story

The secret to the perfect photo is one which is not only attractive but also has a story to tell. Take a photo of something with a hidden meaning or capture your family when they aren’t looking. It’s these types of images which have more depth and will interest your followers.

    Take photos in risky places

But remember to be careful! Photos in places which are or appear dangerous are always more eye-catching. Maybe it’s a photo of you sitting on the edge of a cliff after a hike or skydiving in South America. Capture it!

If it’s raining, make the most of it!

For many people, rain is an inconvenience, but it can also help you to take some really original photos on your trip. Take photos of rain through a window, drops falling off a tree or a storm brewing.

And our last tip, have patience!

One of the things which photographers have to have is patience, if you’re snapping away without thinking about it you will most likely not be able to get the photo you want. Take some time, look around you and wait for the right moment to capture the best photo.

Do you take a lot of photos when you go on holiday? What tips do you use yourself? We would love to hear any advice!
