  • Incredible colourful beaches around the world

  • Do colourful beaches really exist? Yes they do! The world never ceases to amaze us. You have most likely stepped foot on the sand of dozens of beaches in your lifetime, but did they all have the same colour? Well it turns out there are many beaches around the world which actually have brightly coloured sand. Let’s take a look…

    Panaluu Beach, Hawaii

This beach actually has black sand which contrasts well against the bright blue skies. Have you ever seen a black beach before? Well this one has an explanation. The sand is black due to the colour of the Volcanoes in the National Park in the south of Hawaii. The sea is the creator of this wonderful element.

    Papakolea Beach, Hawaii

    green sand beach hawaii

Yes, Hawaii is the island which seems to have most colourful beaches and this time, green! It’s pretty close to the previous one and the only beach in the world to have green sand.

So why is it green? It actually comes from the Olivine mineral aka Hawaii diamond. This also comes from the volcanoes in this area. The olvine fragments are formed from erosion impact from the sea.

    Red Sand beach, Hawaii

Yes another beach in Hawaii and if you look hard enough you might even guess what colour sand it is ? This time of the Muai island. The beach is a striking colour red which comes from the iron in the rocks. It looks incredible against the blue sea and the green vegetation.

    La Tejita beach, Canary Islands

The sand on this beach is actually dark grey, located in Tenerife, Spain. Tejita beach is known worldwide for its dark coloured sand and agin this is due to volcanic activity. Although it’s not completely black, the grey colour is still beautiful and definitely worth a visit.

    Xi Beach, Greece

This orange sand beach is located in Greece on Kefalonia Island. This bright orange colour comes from the clay within the rocks. It’s also used to make your skin better, all you have to is rub it into your skin and let it dry there naturally.

    Elafonisi Beach, Greece

On the Greek Island Crete, you can find a beach with pink sand. You don’t need to leave Greece to find another different coloured beach. It’s situated near to a Nature reserve for marine animals. Once they die, small red organisms are born from their reefs and there are carried to shore by the sea current. This is what creates this incredible pink colour.

    Pfeiffer Beach, California

In California you can find a beach with purple sand and it’s absolutely stunning! It’s a colour which comes from the pebbles of amethyst stone and are scattered around the sand. This amethyst stone is crystallised and then used in jewellery.

    Hyams Beach, Australia

The beach of white sand. We began with white so we will finish with black. The colour of this beach is so bright and could be mistaken as snow. It’s blinding in appearance and sensational to walk on. The sand is actually made from fish dropping (sorry we had to tell you). They’re fragments of coral which parrotfish cannot digest and instead excrete in the form of grains. The current brings them to shore and viola, we have the whitest beach in the world!

Do you want go and find these colourful sands? In Hundredrooms get the perfect apartment to stay in whilst enjoying these beaches.
