Did you know that you can actually live in a house, elevated above the ground? Houses that “float” on water, parasite houses that are held between buildings, and many more! Living in one of these amazing homes must be an experience, but not suitable for those who have vertigo. Would you like to discover some of the most interesting floating houses?
A house hanging on a cliff

This hanging house, called Timely Tree House, stands on a cliff on a hill overlooking the Bass Strait, which separates the island of Tasmania from the southern Australian coast. The green, brown and grey colours give the house a woody aspect that fuses with the landscape
A house which appears to float on the sea

This incredible house which hangs above the water is also in Australia. It’s known as The Pole House, and situated on Fairhaven Beach, a popular destination for surfers, about 125km from Melbourne.
We must say that this house has a bit of a trick up its sleeve. The architect Frank Dixon, built the house on a pillar in the middle of a cliff 40 meters above the ground. From the perspective from which you can see it seems to be flying over the sea.
A house which floats over the Julian Alps

On the border between Slovenia and Italy we can find this interesting home which protects hikers who are walking through the Julian Alps. Designed by the OFIS Arhitekti architects’ studio, this house seems to defy the laws of gravity. The design of its structure was thought to have a minimal impact on nature. We have to say, we feel a little bit dizzy just looking at it!
The Aviator house

The so-called Villa del Aviador was designed for a retired pilot and seems to be barely attached to the ground. It was designed by Urban Office Architecture and we love the geometric volumes which give it that “take-off” appearance.
Hanging house in the hills of Japan

This floating house is situated on a hillside of the Yatsugatake Mountains and offers an incredible panoramic view of the surroundings. Part of the structure of the house is supported with two large steel cylinders facing the slope of the hill. We think it actually looks like a flying saucer.
House floating between two buildings

This peculiar building is an office which uses the structures of the buildings either side of it to keep floating in the air. It is a very new design that stands out from the rest of the urban landscape.
A peculiar Tree house

This hidden tree house in the Canadian woods is our favourite nature house. It’s also available to rent out for holidays. Would you like to spend your holidays in the middle of the forest?
