Welcome to La Voûte de l’Orb, a charming stone village house in the heart of Cessenon-sur-Orb, just a 60-metre walk from the river beach and a short stroll from cafés and restaurants. With two en-suite double bedrooms, an atmospheric vaulted-stone lounge and beautiful countryside on your doorstep, it’s a lovely base for a relaxing escape, an active holiday or a little of both.
Spend your mornings exploring vineyard roads, your afternoons beside the river and your evenings enjoying dinner in the village before returning to the comfort of your own characterful home. Beautiful Roquebrun is only a few kilometres along the road, making it easy to explore another of the Orb valley’s picturesque riverside villages during your stay.
The house accommodates up to four guests, with two double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. This makes it particularly well suited to couples, friends travelling together or families who appreciate a little privacy. In the top bedroom, the roof window offers a lovely extra touch: on clear nights, you can gaze at the stars while lying in bed.
The vaulted-stone lounge is one of the house’s most distinctive features. Its curved ceiling and exposed stone create an intimate setting for unwinding after a day outdoors. Put on a record, settle down with a book or enjoy a film together. A record player, television, Netflix, Prime Video and CANAL+ provide plenty of options for evenings at home, with football coverage available through the subscribed channels.
The fully equipped kitchen and dining area make it easy to enjoy breakfast at your own pace or prepare a meal with local ingredients. Prefer to let someone else cook? The village’s cafés and restaurants are within easy walking distance, so dinner out can be part of your evening stroll.
Fast fibre Wi-Fi keeps you connected, whether you’re streaming, planning tomorrow’s route or catching up with work during a longer stay. Bed linen and towels are provided.
A separate storage and utility room has a washing machine and tumble dryer—particularly useful after a long ride, a hike or a day on the river. Bicycles, kayaks and canoes can be stored securely behind locked doors, giving you peace of mind when bringing your own equipment.
With the Orb just 60 metres away on foot, you don’t need to plan a whole day around a visit to the water. Wander down for a morning dip, take a picnic or simply sit beside the river and watch village life go by. There are shallow areas for paddling when conditions allow, as well as opportunities for swimming and fishing. As with any natural river, water levels and currents vary, and children should always be supervised.
For guests who enjoy fishing, day licences can be obtained locally, subject to the relevant fishing seasons and rules. It’s an appealing way to spend a quiet few hours close to the house.
For a different view of the valley, head to nearby Réals for canoeing or kayaking on the Orb. A day on the water brings together riverside scenery, fresh air and a little adventure. Outings depend on the season and river conditions.
Cyclists will find plenty to get excited about here. Cessenon makes an excellent starting point for rides through vineyards, rolling hills and the Orb valley, with beautiful loops taking in villages such as Berlou, Saint-Chinian and Roquebrun. There is plenty of variety, from shorter outings with a café stop to longer rides with rewarding climbs and sweeping views.
For experienced riders looking for a bigger day out, the mountain roads towards the Espinouse and Col de Fontfroide offer more demanding adventures. Bring your road bike and an appetite for climbing: this is a region well worth exploring on two wheels. As a keen local cyclist myself, I’m happy to share suggestions to suit the distance and challenge you’re looking for.
With secure equipment storage, laundry facilities and space to cook and relax, the house makes a comfortable base for a small cycling training camp or a hiking group of up to four guests. Head out for a rewarding day in the hills, then return for a good meal, a relaxed evening and a proper night’s rest before your next adventure.
For wine lovers, the surrounding vineyards and local wine domaines offer another enjoyable way to discover the area. Explore the wines of Saint-Chinian and nearby villages, arrange tastings with local producers and bring a favourite bottle home to enjoy over dinner. The house is a lovely base for a leisurely wine-focused break, with tasting visits best arranged directly with the domaines.
There is just as much to enjoy at a gentler pace. Explore Cessenon’s old streets, stop for a coffee or take a drive through the countryside. Nearby Roquebrun is a particularly lovely outing, with hillside village streets, river views and places to stop for lunch.
Béziers is around half an hour away by car, while the Mediterranean beaches are within easy reach for a seaside day. You can mix river swims, village visits, vineyard discoveries and coastal outings without changing your holiday base.
The house is arranged over four levels, connected by stairs. This traditional layout is part of its character, but guests should be comfortable using stairs, particularly when travelling with young children or anyone with reduced mobility.
Whether you come for cycling, hiking, kayaking, fishing, wine tasting or simply slowing down, La Voûte de l’Orb offers a welcoming place to return to: stone walls, a record playing, a comfortable bed and the river just a short walk away.
