Schöntal has no through traffic; only 30 km/h is generally permitted. This is an optimal starting point for extensive hiking and trekking tours through the pristine German-French Palatinate Forest/Northern Vosges Biosphere Reserve, or for excursions to the numerous castle ruins and bizarre rock formations in the nearby vicinity.
You can relax at one of the many swimming ponds in Ludwigswinkel, enjoy great mountain biking tours (direct access to marked trails right at the house), or opt for relaxed cycling tours without significant inclines in the Sauerbach Valley towards Wissembourg in Alsace.
Visit the Biosphere House in the neighboring town with its treetop walk, barefoot park, mini-golf, and truly high-quality restaurants.
