The Castrum is the military settlement that constitutes the first nucleus of the city: it is recognizable by the horseshoe system of streets around the axis of Via Porta San Pietro.
Built by the Byzantines of Ravenna to defend the main ferryboat that connected the island in between of the two branches of the Po river with the northern territory, it was surrounded by a moat.
The area is still today slightly elevated compared to the rest of the neighborhoods.
Ferrara is a city on a human scale and it can be easily visited on foot or, for those who may prefer it, by bike: it is no coincidence that it is known as the Italian city of bicycles.
Among the main points of interest, it is worth mentioning: the famous Estense Castle, an impressive fortress dating back to the fourteenth century; the Cathedral of Ferrara, with its white marble facade, called "Duomo" by the Ferrarese themselves; Palazzo dei Diamanti, which owes its name to the white and pink diamond-shaped marble blocks that cover the two facades; Via delle Volte, with its medieval charm.
Main distances: - Via delle Volte: 7-minute walk; - Palazzo Schifanoia: 10-minute walk; - Ferrara Cathedral: 13-minute walk; - Estense Castle: 17-minute walk; - Palazzo dei Diamanti: 23-minute walk. - I Piaceri di Lucrezia (restaurant): 2-minute walk; - Coop (supermarket): 9-minute walk; - Carli Pasticceria (bar): 10-minute walk. - From Ferrara Station, the apartment can be reached in about 15 minutes by taking bus 2 to the Baluardi Quartieri stop, 190 meters from the property; - From Bologna Marconi Airport, the property can be reached in 40 minutes by car/taxi; - The property is located within the Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL), and the most convenient free parking spaces are on Viale Baluardi and Via XX Settembre, just a few minutes' walk away (NOT guaranteed). The apartment is located within the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone), so you will be asked to provide your license plate to access it using the access pass that will be sent to you on the day of check-in.

Casa molto bella e ben curata, il punto molto buono, mobili nuovi e un bel bagno nuovo. Unica pecca: manca l’aria condizionata e le zanzariere, per il resto sembrava di essere a casa!
