The Val di Chiana is an area rich in ancient and picturesque villages, valleys, lakes and tourist resorts and Macciangrosso is located in a strategic position between Tuscany and Umbria. By staying here you will have the opportunity to reach, in a short time, some of the most evocative and attractive places in our country, medieval villages, ancient pilgrimage routes, wine and food traditions. We therefore invite you to visit: THE VAL D'ORCIA Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site... "an exceptional example of how the natural landscape was redesigned during the Renaissance period to reflect the ideals of good governance and to create an aesthetically pleasing image; the landscape of the Val d'Orcia was celebrated by the painters of the Sienese School, which flourished during the Renaissance. The images of the Val d'Orcia and especially the reproductions of its landscapes, in which people are depicted living in harmony with nature, became icons of the Renaissance and profoundly influenced the way of thinking about landscape in the years to come' THE VALDICHIANA William Goethe, Journey to Italy ... 'It is not possible to see more beautiful fields; there is not a gorge of soil which is not worked to perfection, prepared for sowing. The forage grows there luxuriantly, and seems to find in these soils all the conditions required for it to flourish. In the second year they sow broad beans for the horses, for oats do not grow here. They also sow lupins, which are now already green and bear fruit in March. The flax is also already sown; in the ground all winter, and the cold, the frost make it more tenacious.' THE TRASIMENO LAKE The lake holds within itself an ancient and troubled history, manifested by castles, fortresses, churches and abbeys; the works of artists of great renown, such as those of Pietro Vannucci known as Perugino or those of Nicolò Pomarancio. Legend has it that the nymph of Lake Agilla, madly in love with the handsome Prince Trasimeno, seduced him by dragging him into its waters, which were thus named after him. Three islands emerge from the lake: Maggiore, Minore and Polvese. A scenic road connects the lakeside towns: Castiglione del Lago, Borghetto, Tuoro sul Trasimeno, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Torricella, Magione, Monte del Lago, San Feliciano, San Savino, Sant'Arcangelo.
