Pagliara and Rocchenere are two small and charming villages located in the province of Messina, on the eastern coast of Sicily, both immersed in the mountainous landscape of the Peloritani Mountains, but with peculiar characteristics that make them unique. Pagliara is a small village located at an altitude of about 400 metres, with a spectacular view of the valley and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The village is characterised by narrow streets, stone houses and a quiet, typically Sicilian atmosphere. The village has a strong agricultural tradition, particularly in the cultivation of olive trees and vineyards, which contribute to the production of local oil and wine. The panorama of the coast and the Aeolian Islands is one of its strong points. Although a small centre, Pagliara allows one to immerse oneself in the serenity of the Sicilian landscape, just a few kilometres from Messina. Rocchenere, also located in the province of Messina and at a similar altitude to Pagliara, is an equally charming village. Rocchenere is surrounded by wild and unspoilt nature, with vegetation typical of the Mediterranean maquis. The village, which still retains the charm of the most authentic Sicilian villages, is ideal for those seeking tranquillity and a deep connection with nature. The view of the sea, which can be admired from some of the higher areas, is spectacular, offering an extraordinary glimpse, particularly at sunset. Rocchenere is an excellent starting point for exploring the Peloritani mountains and discovering the rural landscapes of the area. Both villages represent a corner of Sicily rich in history, tradition and natural beauty, far from mass tourism and perfect for those seeking a peaceful break between local culture and the beauty of the mountain and seascapes.
