Bayeux, a gem of Normandy, is a historic town with timeless charm that transports you back in time while offering tourist experiences rich in culture, history, and beauty.
One of Bayeux’s most famous attractions is the Bayeux Tapestry, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This extraordinary medieval tapestry, 70 metres long, tells the storey of the Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066. It is incredibly detailed and offers a fascinating glimpse into this historical period.
Bayeux Cathedral features magnificent stained-glass windows and impressive architecture. The cathedral also houses the Bayeux Museum of Art and History, which features a collection of religious artefacts and medieval art.
The heart of Bayeux is a labyrinth of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with well-preserved half-timbered houses. You can stroll through the city centre, visit antique shops, sample local specialities in cafés and crêperies, and admire the medieval architecture.
In addition to the Bayeux Tapestry, the town is home to other interesting museums. The Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum traces the history of World War II and the Normandy Landings. The Bayeux Museum of Art and History features a diverse collection of art and historical artefacts.
A few kilometres from Bayeux, the British Military Cemetery in Bayeux is a place of remembrance dedicated to British soldiers who fell during World War II. It is a moving place to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
Bayeux is an ideal starting point for exploring the D-Day beaches, such as Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, as well as the many museums and memorials dedicated to the history of the Normandy landings.
Bayeux is a hidden gem of Normandy, where the past and present blend to create an unforgettable tourist experience. Whether you’re a history buff, an art lover, or simply looking for a peaceful and charming atmosphere, Bayeux will charm you with its authenticity and exceptional cultural heritage.
The Bayeux train station is 1.9 km away, a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk.
The beaches of Arromanches are 10 km away.

Tidy little room in an excellent spot in the centre of Bayeux. I visited the D-Day beaches over a few days along with Bayeux itself. Comfortable bed, tidy bathroom, great communication from the host, located right next to the Main Street. Overall, very happy.

Great location. It was near many things that you want to see in Bayeuc. Small apartment especially when the pull out sofa-bed is open.
