## Emplacement
San Nari is the Provençal name of Saint Nazaire, Roman martyr of the 1st century AD, to whom was dedicated in the Middle Ages a place of worship on the territory of today’s Sanary. Hamlet on the edge of the Mediterranean, sheltered by the seigneurial tower erected around 1300, Saint-Nazaire takes its rise in the sixteenth century.
The port of Sanary is recognized as one of the most typical and authentic on the French Mediterranean coast. Very old natural port, located in the heart of the city, it honors a hundred heritage boats, the oldest dating back to 1895, including the famous "pointy" Provençal.
Village turned towards the sea, Sanary was also the refuge of the biggest names in German culture: Thomas Mann, Heinrich Mann, Klaus Mann, Erika Mann, Lion Feuchtwanger, Arnold Zweig, Franz Hessel... resided in Sanary-sur-Mer between 1933 and 1942.
The esplanade of the sea, lighthouses, jetties... all walks that offer picturesque views of the port and the village.
You will also love its large night market every evening in July-August.
