Situated at the junction of North Terrace and Wesley Passage, An Argh Vyghan – pronounced 'An Arrgh VEE-ghan' and which is Cornish for The Little Ark - was built as part of the early 19th Century development of the Stennack River area of St Ives and is a typical example of a traditional Penwith labourer’s cottage.
Built facing the St Ives Wesleyan Chapel, which has often been referred to as ‘The Mother Church of Cornish Methodism’, St Ives was one of the first Cornish towns to embrace the Methodist beliefs of John and Charles Wesley. Despite this, at first the 2 brothers were far from welcomed by the fisherman and miners of the town.
Tastefully furnished and decorated by the owners, An Argh Vyghan is an ideal destination for families looking for a base close to the amenities but away from the hustle and bustle. Situated less than a moment’s walk from the closest convenience store and only five minutes’ walk from Fore Street, The Wharf and all the beaches, this cottage provides a modest but comfortable retreat.
