A visit to this picturesque village is an unforgettable experience for all who love nature and wish to escape everyday stress. The entire island of Usedom is a unique nature park.
In the hinterland of the three seaside resorts, you will find the Mümmelkensee (near Bansin), Gothensee, and Thurbruch (near Heringsdorf) nature reserves, as well as the Golm nature reserve near Ahlbeck.
Here, you can forget time, wander along ancient, tree-lined avenues, hike and cycle without a map. You will encounter people who are as varied as their island: sometimes rough, sometimes gentle, and always a bit mysterious.
In the hinterland of the seaside resorts, you will find the quiet side, the romantic face of the island.
Storks and herons greet the attentive wanderer.
Meadows and forests stretch as far as the eye can see. Enchanting lakes are nestled within them.
The Achterwasser, the body of water between the mainland and the island, is a true paradise for nature lovers, water sports enthusiasts, and anglers.
There are still wide reed belts here – an Eldorado for waterfowl.
They are also the source of livelihood for an old craft, reed roof covering.
The bird protection islands of Bömke and Werder in Balmer See, a picturesque bay in the Achterwasser near Neppermin, are a particularly charming sight for nature lovers. Germany's second-largest island offers a broad, white sandy beach along its Baltic Sea coast for 38 km, lined with beech forests and steep cliffs.
Usedom is home to the oldest seaside resorts in Europe.
On the south side, the Achterwasser, the Peenestrom, and the Stettiner Haff offer a unique water landscape and pure nature enjoyment.
Reed belts, willow groves, forests, and steep coasts line the shores.
As an alternative to a relaxing beach and water sports holiday, Usedom offers an interesting hinterland with a well-developed network of cycle paths.
You can explore this by bicycle, horse-drawn carriage, or quite leisurely on foot.
You will experience a nature where time seems to have stood still. The Baltic Sea, the "Mare Balticum," slopes gently at Usedom's bathing beaches, with hardly any dangerous currents.
The quality of the bathing water is excellent.
The ADAC and Stiftung Warentest conduct annual checks, and the island of Usedom consistently receives top marks.
Many beaches offer activities such as parasailing, water skiing, or a "banana boat ride." Sailboats, small motorboats, and pedalos can be rented, and excursion boats operate between the reconstructed piers located all over.
