The Hebrides are a paradise for nature lovers, with wild and remote landscapes, home to red deer, golden eagles, otters, and seals.
Looking out to sea, you may spot orcas, basking sharks, and dolphins.
Lewis and its neighbouring islands are renowned for their stunning beaches.
Enjoy a picnic, Loch View provides all the extras, and visit Bosta, less than a mile away, or travel further afield to Harris, famous for its beaches, especially Luskentyre, Seilebost, Huishinish, and Scarista.
The island of Lewis has a host of historical sites, including the ancient and iconic Callanish Standing Stones, which predate Stonehenge, and the Carloway Broch, an Iron Age structure over 2,000 years old.
Lews Castle is a perfect day out; explore the museum and grounds and stop off for lunch at the on-site café.
For a glimpse into more recent Hebridean history, visit the Arnol Blackhouse, a traditional Lewis thatched house that showcases how life once was on the island.
For a great meal out, try Uig Sands, which specialises in fish and shellfish (bookings recommended), or opt for the popular Italian in Stornoway, La Balena, known for its large portions.
For something a bit different, Crust Like That serves up delicious pizzas from a shipping container at Achmore in the summer, moving to Stornoway Distillery in the winter.
If you're in Stornoway, Becketts and Sons offers a great breakfast or brunch, with home baking and good coffee.
No visit to the islands would be complete without exploring one of its distilleries.
Visit Stornoway Distillers for their innovative gin, or head to Abhainn Dearg Distillery (pronounced Aveen Jarræk, meaning Red River in English) located in Uig on the Isle of Lewis.
