The 10 kilometre long and up to 2.5 kilometre wide Lake Tollensesee is located north-east of the Müritz in the Mecklenburg Lake District. It is one of the cleanest and largest bodies of water in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The lake can be circumnavigated on a well-developed, approximately 35 kilometre-long cycle path - past natural and cultural sights such as the Prillwitz hunting lodge and the Nonnenhof nature reserve. The Broda and Augustabad lidos offer attractive beach areas for swimming. Passenger boats ply the lake on scheduled and round trips. Canoes and bicycles can be hired and diving courses can be attended at the water sports centre on the north-eastern shore of the lake. The 9-hole Mecklenburg-Strelitz golf course is nestled in the hilly moraine landscape near Groß Nemerow.
Just a few minutes from Lake Tollensesee, you can discover the cultural highlights of the "four-gate city" of Neubrandenburg: the imposing concert church or Mecklenburg's oldest theatre building, the Schauspielhaus. A walk along the well-preserved town wall and through historic quarters leads to museums, exhibitions and events.
