Description:
Refúgio da Rossaura – Tradition, Comfort and Nature in the Heart of the Peneda-Gerês National Park!
Set amid lush, peaceful countryside, Refúgio da Rossaura is unique in the heart of Peneda-Gerês National Park, ideal for those seeking a romantic getaway surrounded by nature.
It is part of Casas da Assureira, along with Casa do Palheiro and Casa das Inverneiras. Carefully renovated, this studio preserves its historic character, in a harmonious blend of tradition, comfort and nature.
It has an open space with 1 bedroom with a double bed, 1 bathroom with shower, air conditioning, living area with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen.
It also has free Wi-Fi and a pleasant outdoor terrace, perfect for breakfast in the open air or toasting to tranquillity and well-being. It was in this house that Rosaura Rodriguez, a refugee from the Spanish Civil War, lived.
She was born in 1901 in the border town of Bouzadrago, Entrimo, Galicia. During the Spanish conflict, Castro Laboreiro received dozens of refugees.
Rosaura was first arrested in 1936 by the Spanish carabineros for smuggling and showing solidarity with those who had fled.
She ended up being arrested several times. She was the romantic partner of José Rodriguez Páramo, a member of the anti-Franco guerrilla group created in Castro Laboreiro by the famous Asturian communist Manolo Dente de Ouro. Arrested on 26 August 1943 for collaborating with the armed resistance, she arrived in Ourense on 28 September 1943.
She was released by court martial on 19 December 1944. She lived in this house until her death in 1987. The Calcanheiras family, who still own the house today, donated the land and some neighbours helped with the construction. Surrounded by rich fauna and flora, Refúgio da Rossaura invites you to spend a few days in full contact with nature.
Here you can step back in time and enjoy an unforgettable experience in a region with one of the richest prehistoric heritages in the country, featuring cave paintings, dolmens, cists, a castle, historic bridges, religious buildings, ovens and mills. Interpretive trails and the Camino de Santiago cross the region, celebrating the natural and cultural beauty of this unique place. 🌿 It is a house that tells stories, in a cosy and intimate atmosphere.
Here, you will be part of a legacy deeply marked by the lands of Castro Laboreiro! Video:
