A TRADITIONAL ST IVES COTTAGE FULL OF CHARACTER
Hidden away on charming Virgin Street in the heart of Downalong, Plane Sailing is the quintessential St Ives fisherman’s cottage. Surrounded by cobbled lanes, independent cafés, bakeries, beaches and harbour life, this cosy and characterful retreat places everything you could need just moments from your doorstep.
Whether you’re visiting for sunny beach days or quieter winter escapes, Plane Sailing offers an authentic St Ives experience with warmth, charm and convenience woven throughout.
RIGHT IN THE HEART OF DOWNALONG
Staying at Plane Sailing means immersing yourself in one of the oldest and most loved parts of St Ives. The cottage overlooks the town’s famous “little green door” — a much-photographed landmark that has stood on Virgin Street for more than two centuries.
You’re also only moments from local favourites including St Ives Bakery for fresh pastries, artisan bread and Cornish pasties, alongside Source Kitchen, a popular deli and eatery showcasing wonderful local Cornish produce.
COMFORTABLE OPEN-PLAN LIVING
Entering through the charming porthole-style front door, you step directly into the welcoming open-plan kitchen, living and dining area.
The kitchen is compact yet thoughtfully designed for self-catering stays, equipped with everything needed for up to four guests, including:
Washer/dryer
Dishwasher
Compact fridge with freezer compartment
Oven and grill
Hob and microwave
Kettle and cafetière
Whether preparing fresh seafood, enjoying pastries from around the corner or brewing slow morning coffees before the beach, the cottage makes relaxed holiday living wonderfully easy.
The living and dining areas provide comfortable seating for four, alongside a Smart TV for cosy evenings after days spent exploring the coast.
TWO BEDROOMS WITH SEA GLIMPSES
Upstairs you’ll first pass a beautiful stained-glass window that fills the landing with colourful natural light.
The spacious family bathroom includes both a separate bath and shower, alongside WC and wash basin.
The two bedrooms comprise:
A double bedroom overlooking where The Digey meets Fore Street, with sea glimpses towards Godrevy Lighthouse
A twin bedroom with two single beds
Both bedrooms include TVs, storage space and thoughtful touches to make longer stays feel comfortable and easy.
BEACHES, SURF & HARBOUR LIFE JUST MINUTES AWAY
Plane Sailing’s central location means all of St Ives’ beaches are reachable within just a short stroll.
The nearest is Porthmeor Beach — the town’s famous Blue Flag beach loved for surfing, sunsets and golden sand. Here you’ll also find much-loved local restaurants including Porthmeor Beach Café and Porthmeor West.
The harbour beach, shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants are all just moments from the cottage, allowing guests to enjoy St Ives entirely on foot.
DOG-FRIENDLY STAYS BY THE SEA

Very happy with the appartment it was close to everything . It was very well presented and had everything you need accept a hair dryer but we survived. The communication and direction for everything right from booking to arriving and then leaving was fantastic.
Highly recommended.

Lovely place in a great part of the town during the day. However, at night, be prepared for loud, rowdy groups of people shouting and singing until about 3am in the morning in the narrow lanes outside the property. The flat itself is well appointed, well equipped and very clean. Comms with the property managers was great too.
