Just 2 km from Collioure, in the beautiful Languedoc-Roussillon region and at the gateway to Spain, the seaside resort of Port-Vendres is renowned for its beaches along the Côte Vermeille, which attract many swimmers in the summer. Less well-known than its neighbour, it offers an authentic Mediterranean atmosphere. This is especially true of its harbour, the coast’s only natural harbour, which can be reached by walking through the steep alleyways. Its piers are very pleasant! Its coastline is marked by forts, such as the Redoute Béar and the Madeloc, which bear witness to its military past.
The 12 km of beaches in Port-Vendres make everyone happy, especially Baie des Paulilles, which is supervised and very popular, but many coves and inlets sheltered by the cliffs are waiting to be discovered: "," D'en Baux ", Tamarins, Oasis, Mailly ... True paradises!
A sports-oriented town, it offers everyone the chance to learn about sailing, diving, spearfishing, and many other activities between two sessions of relaxation. The small harbour in the morning is the place to be—a chance to watch the fishermen return and unload their catch for the auction!
To the north lies the charming resort of Banyuls-sur-Mer. Further north, there are long sandy beaches at Argelès-Plage.
Paulilles Beach in Port-Vendres is nestled in a cove, which is the largest and most expansive part of Anse des Paulilles. It stretches for about 300 metres in a lush green setting. It is supervised during the summer season and has been awarded a Blue Flag for several years.
To reach Paulilles Cove, take the D914 towards Banyuls-sur-Mer. Access to the Paulilles area is signposted; there is free parking (access via a roundabout). The trails provide easy access to the beach.
The coves and inlets
At the entrance to Port-Vendres, on the road to Collioure, the small coves of “l’Oli” and “d’En Baux” are sheltered by schist cliffs that offer one of those unique scenic views that make up the charm of the Côte Vermeille.
The coves located very close to the harbour (Anse des Tamarins, de l’Oasis, Mailly, Jetée, Béar) are part of the area’s charm. A stroll along the pier is a must...
