This is a fabulous house that dates back to the 13th century, as witnessed by a Romanesque lion's head still in the facade. It has been entirely renovated (with suggestions and designs by the great sculptor Beverly Pepper). It is inside the town walls, about 5 min. walk from the main square, so it is conveniently located in terms of shopping. I am a photographer and came to Italy with my wife Lynn in 1973. (You can see my work at www.georgetatge.com) We wanted to enjoy living amongst the Italians and that is why we chose this house. And yet it is very private and quiet because it is flanked by the apse of the church of S. Prassede on the south-west side, and has a 1,200 sq.ft. garden in front. This is not your typical bare and spartan vacation rental. It is a real home (152 sq meters / 1,636 sq ft.) with books, music, antique furniture, good reading lights and original art on the walls by great artists such as Beverly Pepper, Piero Dorazio, Brian O'Doherty, Lucien Clergue and Frank Meadow Sutcliffe. Built on four floors, all the windows on the living room and bedroom levels have great views of the valley below and the Martani mountains directly east. And we have installed a Daikin AC system in all the bedrooms.
Todi is smack in the center of Umbria, one of Italy's most beautiful and artistic regions, so it's not far from any of the other wondrous hill towns in the region. (It is much less touristy than neighboring Tuscany.) Todi has about 9,000 inhabitants, with very little industry and rolling hills and farm land all around. It is set on top of a hill, 480 meters above sea level, and is primarily medieval in its architectural make-up.
Another good reason for being in town, apart from enjoying concerts at the theater, exhibitions, cocktails on the square, is the BEST ICE CREAM in the world (as verified by many of our guests).
Yes, the Bar Pianegiani, a 10-min. walk up the street. We can also help you participate in a cooking class with the chef who will come to the house, cook the meal and serve it to you. Great fun! You will find shelves of guide books and a green folder with lots of suggestions of things to do, places to hike or bike and places to visit.
Oh yes, the Wi-Fi is free!
Not many properties in Todi with such views and with a 400 sq. meter garden inside the city walls. During the cold months we ask that gas and electricity be reimbursed (as well as wood if any is used in the fireplaces). Both are metered and there is no surcharge! Just what we will have to pay the energy companies at the end of the month. Same thing in Summer, when the electricity will be metered. The City of Todi levies a tourist tax of €1.5 per person for a maximum of 4 nights. We will collected this at the end of your stay.
If you are planning to continue your vacation northwards please consider our son's apartment in Florence. See the property on VRBO Florence n. 212606.

This is a charming but very old home. It really is medieval with stone walls and floors. Updated bathrooms and kitchen. If you have mobility issues this is not the place for you. Steps to and from the front door and steps throughout the home. The owner was great and communicated well. We loved Todi, great little town and central location for visiting the hill towns. Use Stefano for a rental car.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay in Todi. Driving in and out of the medieval town was challenging as the roads are very narrow. That said, we visited Assisi, Perugia, Lake Trasimeno, Gubbio, Deruta, Spello, Spoleto, Bevagna, Montefalco, Orvieto and Todi. All located within an hour’s drive. The ...
