The village of Najac is one of the "plus beaux villages de France".
The house stands on the south side of a fine medieval street (mostly pedestrian) that leads to the Chateau.
Owned and completely restored and furnished by a potter/furniture maker to the highest standards. Inspired by the traditional inns of Japan (ryokan). It offers a calm environment created with natural materials; local woods (wild cherry, elm, oak, ash), for the furniture, raw silk, hand made ceramics and celadon tableware, original paintings. Please note, there are no ornaments or fragile furnishings to interfere with your relaxation!
Walking: The area around Najac is one of the finest in France for walking. The landscape is deeply cut by the winding gorges of the two rivers Viaur and Aveyron. The valleys are forested & quite wild, but easily accessible by clearly marked walks. Fine and varied domestic architecture abounds; beautiful clusters of houses in hamlets & villages often perched, like the medieval château, on prominent strategic points above the rivers. Within a few kilometres of Najac, one finds great variety of interest, Roman bridges, abandoned copper mines, & bastide towns like Villefranche-de-Rouergue, & Cordes. We recommend April, May, June, Sept and Oct for walking. Bird watching here is excellent. Canoeing, rock climbing, & other sports are available. River swimming is first-rate and safe for all ages.
Village: In the village there are café-bars, a baker, grocery shop, newsagent and a Doctor. Good restaurants of all price ranges and in the summer months, a Sunday market. The municipal swimming pool and tennis courts are open in the summer.
Najac is well served by rail. Daily services to and from Toulouse, Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Figeac, Rodez and Paris. Toulouse airport is 1 ½ hours from Najac and Rodez 1 hour.
Pottery: It is 10 minutes from the village and offer the chance to take pottery lessons. From beginner to more advanced level, all ages are welcome, please contact us for more details.
