The coastal city is under a marked ocean climate. Thermal amplitudes are low, winters are mild and summers cool The sandy beach of Portel is considered one of the most beautiful of the Opal Coast. It is bordered to the south of a small dike called "Epi", in the center, at sea, the fort of Le Heurt and north, by the large dyke "Carnot". The presence of these two dikes and the calm zone thus created have favored the supply of fine sand which is enjoyed by summer visitors and especially by children. Stone fishing and surf casting, picking mussels on the fort and along the cliff as well as walks will make you discover for free part of the Opal Coast.
