Genoa, the port city and capital of Liguria, is historically known for its important role in maritime trade over many centuries.

The spirit of Genoa resides in its alleys, where different smells, tastes, languages and cultures mingle.

In the historical centre stands the Romanesque Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its black and white striped façade and frescoed interior. Narrow streets lead to monumental squares such as the Piazza de Ferrari, with its characteristic bronze fountain, and the Carlo Felice opera house.

Unmissable and iconic is the Genoa Aquarium, the largest in Europe. The exhibition shows more than 70 rooms and about 12,000 specimens of 600 species from all the seas of the world.
