This mill, almost two centuries old, belonged to the ancestors of Secundino Rivera, the creators of this mill in the 19th century. Back in 1973, when it was already in Secundino's hands, forgotten and in ruin, he undertook a tedious restoration process, completing the machinery, grinding stones, gears, etc., to convert it into his personal painting studio. Secundino Rivera (1932-2013), artist; painter and sculptor of international renown. Today converted into a home!
If stones could tell stories, this nearly two-century-old mill would speak of a time when values and survival went hand in hand. Where, in these small coastal farming and fishing villages, they managed with old tools and basic materials and, with tenacity and great effort, built this windmill capable of grinding the local wheat crops… A time of basics: fish, vegetables, and bread, but that Galician bread so beloved by locals and foreigners alike, which has endured through the ages, going from a staple product to an exquisitely recognized delicacy…
If these stones could speak, they would tell the story of a family, Secundino Rivera's grandparents, the creators of this mill in the 19th century, and how, back in 1973, now in Secundino's hands, forgotten and in ruin, he undertook a tedious process of restoration, completing the machinery, grinding stones, gears, etc., to convert it into his personal painting workshop. Secundino Rivera (1932-2013), an internationally renowned artist, painter, and sculptor, whose prolific work we can now enjoy as part of the essence of this mill, commemorates with its transformation into a vacation property a new stage of inspiration for all those adventurers seeking thrills and historic destinations, whose foundations have not been diminished by the passage of time…
The mill is located, peaceful and intimate, among the woods in the secluded Villa de OBarqueiro, a tiny picturesque fishing port, firmly at the sea entrance to the Ría Sor, still vigilant at the maritime entrance to the Northern Seas.
An original construction of thick, solid stone walls, with its handcrafted wooden dome, pierced by its axes and solid chestnut beams, offers us a unique vision of an archaeological experience, modernized to the comfort of our times for very personal stays.
