Up to 3 persons. Temistocle Solera (1815 - 1872): "Va pensiero sull'ali dorate" ("Rise thought, on golden wings") - the librettist and poet Temistocle Solera found the inspiration for this text here in Campagnano in the house of his grandfather, a well-known judge.
After other composers rejected his libretto as too martial, Giuseppe Verdi became enthusiastic about it and used it as the basis for his opera Nabucco - a work that was to give him his breakthrough as a composer and make him immortal.
In politically difficult times, the prisoners' chorus from it became the anthem of freedom for an entire country, because just as the Hebrew people in the opera wanted nothing more than the end of Babylonian rule under Nebuchadnezzar, the text and music expressed the longing of the Italians for the end of Habsburg foreign rule, which had been established at the Congress of Vienna (1814 - 1815).
The choir of slaves thus became a symbol of the resistance movement on the difficult path towards a united Italy.
Solera himself was a restless spirit who travelled the world: he worked as a conductor in several cities in Spain and became a confidant of Queen Isabella II.
He also acted as a courier in secret negotiations between Napoleon III and Cavour and went to Egypt as a prefect of police.
But wherever he went, he carried the memory of his beloved house in Campagnano with him and even immortalised it in some of his poems.
Temistocle Solera died in Milan in 1872, where he was buried in the Monumental Cemetery.
