Stornoway 33.6 miles. With exquisite scenery on all sides ranging from hilly terrain to lochs and beaches, make the perfect family holiday to Scotland’s wilderness with a stay at The Barn at Reef, situated in Reef, near Ardroil on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.
Tucked into the side of a south facing hillock, on the shore of Loch Roag, The Barn at Reef is a beautifully restored former byre, where care has been taken to create a décor that resonates with the wild and remote surroundings, offering all the home comforts needed to make your stay enjoyable through the use of contemporary furnishings and artefacts which are inspired by the islands and local culture.
A perfect mix of traditional and quality décor will welcome you into a beautifully furnished sitting/dining room with a flavour of the wilderness of Scotland mixed in with comfort, why not have your morning coffee at the dining table provided or recline on one of the sofas and plan what adventures your day will hold whilst warming your feet beside the woodburning stove?
When lunchtime approaches, a contemporary kitchen fulfils your culinary needs with amenities to help you feel at home, plus double doors opening onto a decking area, perfect for relaxing with a glass of your favourite beverage.
There are skylights throughout the house, and the king-size bedroom is no exception, with the wooden flooring and grey and brown interior themes continued into this wonderful space, with a sofa available for extra relaxation;
upon entering the double bedroom, you will see the fresh décor continuing, and a delightful box bed.
If you need to warm up after a long day of walking in the hills, a walk-in shower will soak the Hebridean chill away.
Outside, a delightful wooden decking area offers furniture to recline in, with a large, enclosed lawn for your four-legged friends to enjoy.
When adventures call, indulge in the scenery as you venture into the Uig Hills for a hike amongst the rugged scenery. The wildlife here is simply amazing, with so much to see across the island, including eagles and red deer. A multitude of sandy beaches are at your disposal, including Riof or Reef beach, where you can take in the seaside air and white sand through a walk, watersports or even try out wild swimming. Ardroil offers bars, restaurants and a local shop however, where you will be able to enjoy a hot meal or stock up on essentials before heading out to the more remote areas of the island, and if you are searching for something more local, fresh seafood is available from the nearby harbour at Miavaig. Further afield is Great Bernera where you can visit the local iron age museum to sample a taste of the rich history of the island. With stunning beaches and hillside hikes, your holiday to The Barn at Reef will be one to remember. The islands can be reached by flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness; or by ferry from Uig on Skye to Tarbert, or Ullapool to Stornoway. EPC Rating: Band E
