A trip across Lake Windermere on the car ferry will take you to Sawrey, home to many of the stories of Beatrix Potter and Hawkshead, where history fans can visit the Hawkshead Parish Church and see the Grammar School where William Wordsworth attended.

Just a short drive from here will also take you on to Coniston.
