Historic, cosy cottage with wood-burner and original beams
Popular coastal location in West Mersea on Mersea Island
A short walk to local amenities and a 10-minute walk to the beach
About the property
The cottage is one of the oldest on Mersea Island and dates back over 300 years when it was built for the workers of a local farm. Incredibly it still has its original timber frame, which sits on a foundation of crushed local oyster shells. Today, it is a smart, cosy holiday property that offers the perfect bolt-hole for a single traveller or a couple. The garden is a lovely spot to relax in the fresh air, while the wood-burner in the living area is welcoming on winter days. If you’re looking for a convenient location where you can access long walks, coastal scenery and the island’s popular gastro pubs, you won’t be disappointed. You can even bring a four-legged, furry friend with you too.
The space
This sweet little cottage is decorated in a bright, modern style and the clever use of space and light makes it more than comfortable for one or two people to call ‘home’ for a week. Meanwhile, the original ceiling and wall beams offer a nod to the building’s history and add to its overall charms.
On the ground floor, there’s an open-plan living area with a comfortable sofa seating, and a traditional stable door, as well as a wood-burning stove and cosy central heating, perfect for a stay at any time of year. At the rear is a delightful conservatory with comfortable seating and a dining table and chairs; there are French doors that open into the enclosed mature and pretty garden with pergola for al fresco dining.
There’s also a kitchen where you’ll find everything you’ll need to self-cater, plus a washer/dryer.
Upstairs there is a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with a bath and shower over. Slippers, robes and luxury toiletries are also provided.
Guest access
There is a lockbox where you can access the key to the property for a self-check-in and there is driveway parking for one car.
Sustainability
The logs that are provided for use in the wood-burning stove are sourced from a registered tree feller. Trees are felled responsibly as part of a forest sustainability plan and the logs are seasoned to minimise environmental impact.
If you'd like to offset the carbon emissions from your trip get in touch and we can arrange this for a small fee.
Keep in mind
Due to the cottage being over 300 years old, there are some low ceilings and doorways, and uneven flooring.
