Until well into the 19th century, the symbol of Galician lay society par excellence, the "lords of the land" and their nobility, was the pazo, a simple and sober building attached to a tower. Among the various outbuildings of the pazo, which form a typical Galician architectural ensemble, is the Casa Romeo, a house that was intended for the family that looked after the lord's estate and did not normally live in the countryside. Casa Romeo de Beca is located in this exceptional setting, for which its original location has been utilised through a successful renovation and adaptation of the rooms to today's needs. In the surrounding area (1.4 km) are the remains of a Roman road, a medieval bridge, a Gothic cross (the oldest in Galicia), the Lupario Hillfort and the Portuguese Way of St James (8 km).
