A delightful, and deceptively spacious, converted railway carriage set in a quiet garden location, and yet within easy reach of the exciting City of Canterbury. The perfect retreat for couples, and pet friendly too.
Plumcot Halt is named after the fruit tree in the garden the Plumcot Tree which produces a delicious hybrid half plum half apricot fruit and the Halt is of course the reference to the railway carriage which creates a delightful romantic retreat for couples. The carriage is deceptively spacious inside with a cosy open plan living and sleeping space a cosy wood burner a separate kitchen and a bathroom which even has both a roll-top bath and a shower cubicle. The owners have decorated the carriage in gorgeous Romany-style primary colours to create a cheerful atmosphere and outside is a small enclosed garden with bistro table and chairs under the Plumcot tree. Plumcot has its own little private wildflower and orchard garden that in spring is rich with bluebells tulips and daffodils and species such as primroses aconites snakeshead fritillaries and cowslips that nestle under the blossom of two apple trees a Pear tree and of course the plumcot tree. The main garden of the house through which visitors must walk is a much-treasured plantsman’s garden that contains a number of rare and unusual plants from around the world where the emphasis is on foliage scent and a long flowering season. It contains a number of magnolias peonies lilacs and sweet-smelling roses and is arranged in an informal style to encourage wildlife and insects.Located on the outskirts of the city the property is a 20-minute walk into the city centre and in the other direction a few minutes takes you into the open countryside great for hiking and dog walking. Add to this a private parking space and a great location, Plumcot Halt provides everything you could want for a short break or week-long holiday in Canterbury.
