Vacation in architectural monuments combines heritage conservation and tourism. Historically valuable buildings are taken over, gently renovated and rented out as holiday flats. The model provides a double benefit: the monuments are given a new future and the holiday guests experience a stay in an exceptional building. The idea is being realised by the foundation Vacation in architectural monuments (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Heritage Society.
Public transport: SBB train from Ziegelbrücke to Schwanden/Glarus Süd, change there and take the bus to Elm village (24 minutes), 3 minutes on foot to the Grosshaus.
By car: The village of Elm lies in the Sernftal valley. Access to the Sernftal is only possible via Schwanden/Glarus Süd. From the motorway A3 Zurich-Sargans, exit Niederurnen, it is approx. 30km on a steadily ascending road to Elm.
Parking: In the town hall car park 50m from the house (free of charge). For loading/unloading you can drive directly to the house and park there temporarily.
Bicycles: Can be parked in the barn.
Number of persons 4-6: The house offers space for four to six guests. (1 double room, 1 double room with additional sofa bed). Baby cot on request. The floors are made of wood and stone, so we recommend good slippers.
Season: All year round
Short holidays: None, except Easter, Ascension and Whitsun.
Garden: Garden with seating area and furniture.
Heating: Central heating (heat pump), heat distribution via radiators in all rooms.
Stove / fireplace: Stove and a wood-burning cooker in the kitchen.
WLAN: Is available. Reception is not good in all rooms.
Open: The house is open all year round.
Pets: Are not allowed.
Altitude: 977 metres above sea level.

The large house is a listed building that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and treats the property with care. Although the technical equipment is modern, certain functional details do not meet current standards and are a potential source of danger. The tenant is aware of these circumstances. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Vacation in architectural monuments disclaim any liability.
