This former farmhouse from the 16th century is now used as a holiday home. The owners have restored it with great attention to high-quality details in the style of "rustic luxury" and offer their guests a magical place to relax and unwind. The property is located in a small village with no direct neighbours and is surrounded by peaceful, unspoilt countryside, with the foothills of the mighty Pyrenees in the distance. Thanks to its idyllic, rural location, it is ideal for a holiday close to nature with wonderful views down into the valley.Spacious, old farmhouse from the 16th century (renovated in 2016) with three buildings and large garden grounds with pool, in a secluded location surrounded by unspoilt nature
On a generous living space totalling 400 square metres, the property, renovated in 2016, offers space for eighteen people with eight bedrooms and five bathrooms. In addition to the 16th century farmhouse, the traditional dovecote, the granary and even the original building where bread was baked were also included in the renovation, so that groups of up to 18 people, from small children to grandparents, can be easily accommodated. Due to its age, the character of the house is defined by original, gnarled beams, honey-coloured stone walls and a wooden pillar gallery. Custom handmade additions have also been made where necessary; these include an elm window seat in the kitchen and sliding doors made from huge walnut panes in the master bedroom. The large living room with its high ceilings, soft loaf furniture, Invicta wood-burning stove, underfloor heating (reversible heating/cooling) and 60-inch widescreen TV with English satellite channels and surround sound is a cosy place to get together. There is room for everyone at the four metre long dining table. From the living room there is access to a children's playroom with toys, games, books, costumes to dress up in and cuddly toys as well as a second TV with satellite channels, another DVD player and a large selection of DVDs. The farmhouse kitchen has been fitted with a new Smeg induction hob and oven, a Smeg American-style fridge with ice machine, an integrated Bosch dishwasher and Nespresso machine, as well as a second fridge and dishwasher. The washing machine and tumble dryer are located in a separate utility room. Each bedroom has been designed to feel like a room in a boutique hotel, including Loaf super king-size beds with the finest John Lewis mattresses and bed linen, as well as free-standing baths in the master bedroom, dovecote and granary and luxurious walk-in rain showers. Custom bunk beds have been installed in the children's bedroom to serve as a play den, with a porthole under the steps for secret midnight parties and a sleek wooden slide by the bed. The air-conditioned master bedroom on the first floor of the main house has a super king-size bed and a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a large freestanding bath, rain shower, double vanity and WC. A loaf chaise longue and a footstool for relaxing moments complete the furnishings. At the end of the gallery on the first floor is the children's bedroom, which is also air-conditioned, with four customised bunk beds, each with its own reading light and a porthole under the steps. Little guests can slide down the wooden slide and land softly on a pillow. In another wing of the farmhouse on the ground floor, there is a second bedroom with a super king-size bed, French doors to the courtyard and a window overlooking the west-facing terrace. A shower room with double Belfast basin and walk-in rain shower with separate WC, shared with the second bedroom, is just down the hallway. In the same wing on the ground floor is a twin bedroom with a window overlooking the west-facing terrace. The Dovecot has a super king-size bed on the mezzanine level and an en-suite bathroom with a high-backed bath, walk-in rain shower and separate WC. An Invicta wood-burning stove and loaf sofa ensure cosy winter evenings under the impressive exposed beams and mezzanines. The former bread oven building has a super king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with walk-in rain shower and WC. With its high ceilings and original details, this room is unique. A beautiful round window high in the gable casts a beautiful red light into the room at sunset. The former granary has a super king-size bed, a children's bedroom and a family bathroom with a free-standing bath, walk-in rain shower, double vanity unit and WC. Underfloor heating/cooling and a loaf sofa complete this room. All bunk beds are also suitable for adults. The living room, playroom, granary and oven building have reversible underfloor heating. There is central heating with radiators everywhere else. Air conditioning is installed in the master bedroom, the children's bedroom and the kitchen. Fans are also available. All bedrooms can be closed with doors, except the sleeping area of the pigeon house (suitable for two adults) where the bed is on the mezzanine floor and the one bedroom of the bread baking building where the bed is also on a mezzanine floor.
The property is surrounded by a large, grassy garden with a beautiful 14 x 5 m heated pool, with a 5 x 3 m splash area ideal for babies and toddlers, which is only 30 cm deep. The rest of the pool has a variable depth of 1.20 to 2.40 metres. There is a table tennis table by the pool and plenty of space to play football, badminton and boules, spread out a picnic in the orchard, find a quiet corner in the walled gardens, take a nap in the hammock between the chestnut trees or seek or avoid the sun in the comfortable day bed that rotates. From the pool and the outdoor terraces, you have a marvellous view over the surrounding fields to the foothills of the Pyrenees. And when evening falls, the children can roast marshmallows on the fire pit, sizzle sausages, look out for shooting stars or snuggle up in a blanket. There is parking for eight cars on the property. The property is not completely fenced in, but is mostly bordered by a stone wall.
A bakery, a bar and a post office are around 1500 metres from your holiday home. Two smaller supermarkets, a tobacconist and a wine cellar are around three kilometres away. There are several large supermarkets, DIY stores and other shops five kilometres away. There are many medieval towns to explore in the area. You can also pack a picnic and follow the many hiking trails that criss-cross the countryside. Or how about simply spending the day by a lake or river? The medieval village of Parisot is just three minutes away by car. The villages of Caylus and Najac, which are among the most beautiful villages in France, are also nearby. It's a pleasure to stroll through the narrow, winding streets, browse the shops in the old arcaded squares and have lunch in the pavement cafés. The historic fortified town of Montauban is 25 kilometres away. It has a lively shopping area and is definitely a must-see with its characteristic pink buildings and arcades on all four sides of the Place Nationale. The city shares its pink buildings with its bigger sister Toulouse, 50 kilometres to the south, which is also known as "La Ville Rose". The hilltop village of Cordes Sur Ciel, with its labyrinth of medieval cobbled streets and sweeping panoramic views, is a 45-minute drive away. Down in the valley, the town of St Antonin is a centre for outdoor activities such as climbing, mountain biking and water sports. You will also find many excellent restaurants and coffee bars in the town. The UNESCO World Heritage city of Albi, with its towering cathedral, manicured gardens and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, is around an hour away.
