Cisternino is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is nestled in the Valle d'Itria, is rich in trulli and can boast a renowned historical centre. The most valuable historical buildings are the Norman-Swabian Tower and the Church of San Nicola, known as the Mother Church, both majestic and in the central square. The whitewashed houses, alleyways and courtyards, the typical flowered balconies, which together with a plate of the typical roast bombette biscuits and a glass of local wine strengthen the sense of community.
These are places where time seems to have stood still and where it is still possible to enjoy the authenticity of the past.
The countryside of Cisternino extends into the heart of the Valle d'Itria. Cisternino is in the centre of southern Apulia. Cisternino is nature, history, culture, food and wine, and sacred/profane. Cisternino is tradition. Cisternino is beauty.
Just a few kilometres away is Ceglie Messapica, a centre of tradition and enogastronomy, Ostuni, a village known to the world as the "White City", Alberobello whose famous trulli have been a world heritage site since 1996. About 25 km to the north we find the Egnazia Archaeological Park, Monopoli and Polignano a Mare, ancient fishing villages with a charming historic centre. To the north (70 km) we find Bari, the gateway to the East, while moving south we first encounter the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, then Brindisi to reach Lecce, the capital of Baroque. Moving westwards there is Taranto, the heart of Magna Graecia, and finally Matera, characteristic for its sassi and European capital of culture.
The nearest airports and ports are Brindisi (50 km) and Bari (80 km).
