Or the picturesque Etruscan town of Cortona, which has dominated the valley for thousands of years and is only 20 kilometres away.

Wine tasting in the medieval town of Montepulciano (40km) is a must and the charming Renaissance town of Pienza (45km) with breathtaking views over the Orcia Valley (45km) will remain a vivid memory.

In half an hour's drive you can reach Lake Trasimeno with its sandy beaches and small islands (35km).

Also within an hour's drive: Siena with the most beautiful square in the world, the "Campo" (80km) and the Umbrian capital Perugia (70km).
