Location description : Fischbach is located on the northern slope of the Thuringian Forest at an altitude of about 380 meters at the foot of the Großer Inselsberg. It is a village in the district Gotha in Thuringia, which since 2013 is a part of the city Waltershausen. The position of Fischbach was mentioned for the first time in 1103 by the second abbot of the monastery of Reinhardsbrunn. A place at this place has been occupied since the early 15th century. The place was owned by the lords of Wangenheim, who built a castle there and had its seat in it until 1780. In addition to forestry and linen weaving, in the past, in particular, the transport sector had great economic importance. In addition, copper slate was mined in the claw mountain pastures. Weaving and transportation experienced a decline at the beginning of the 19th century, after which the inhabitants found their livelihood in the hemp processing (spraying hoses, firmer bins, belts), basket and screenmaking or as broombinders and turneries (mostly for pipe production in Ruhla). Around 1900 also a Klenganstalt for the production of forestry seed was developed. After 1945, the village developed into a popular holiday resort, which was decisively contributed by the construction of the Bergbühne in 1953, which offered space for 2000 spectators and ao. By the Landestheater Eisenach. In 1996, Fischbach became part of the Emsetal Unity Community and municipality administration by merger with three surrounding municipalities. This will be incorporated into the city of Waltershausen on 31 December 2013.
